The U has 18 colleges and schools and nearly 100 departments. We also serve as the state’s dental school, law school, medical school, pharmacy school, comprehensive cancer institute, and mental health institute, and confer more than half of the state’s graduate degrees. The University of Utah faces an unprecedented era of opportunity. Our campus was home to the 4^th node of the ARPANET, which evolved into the internet. The pixel was made popular by scientists from the U, and Atari, Adobe and Pixar all were founded by U alums and faculty. Our doctors performed the first artificial heart transplant surgery. Huntsman Cancer Institute is home to more than 200 research teams, running between 150 and 200 clinical research trials. More genes for inherited cancers have been discovered at HCI than at any other cancer center in the world.

The co-location of a comprehensive research university and an academic medical center makes the U one of just 12 equivalent institutions in the country. We innovate, improve lives and change the world.

Throughout its history, the University of Utah has served as a thought center and gathering space for the community around us. That’s why the state arboretum (Red Butte Garden), the Natural History Museum of Utah, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Utah Presents, Pioneer Theatre Company (and origin soil of the Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, Ballet West and more) all call our campus home.
